Morse and⁄or Bachelder Families--I have an old letter (1937) in which my g-g-aunt tells about her father, George Washington Bachelder, immigrating from Maine to Rockton, Illinois, in the 1830's where he built a blacksmith shop. Apparently his uncle, William Morse, had moved there even earlier in the 1830's and had planted an apple orchard with seeds he had brought with him from Maine. Is there any way of checking this information out to see if any of it is true? Jim Schultz <jschultz@essex1.com>.

Seek to share information about McMAHON and TURLEY families in Winnebago Co IL. Having trouble finding info there but I know that MICHAEL MCMAHON and wife JANE CUNNINGHAM MCMAHON settled in Rockford and Cherry Valley area about 1845-50. Their son OWEN MCMAHON married JULIA ANNE TURLEY, in 1859, daughter of MICHAEL TURLEY and ANNE WATSON TURLEY, also of Rockford area. MCMAHON's and TURLEY's were from Ireland. I know that A.J. TURLEY, son of MICHAEL, brother to JULIA, died in Cherry Valley on 2⁄20⁄1880. How can I find an obituary for A.J. Turley? Thanks for the help. Mona Sarratt Knight

I am searching for information on my great-great grandfather, John McGregor. He was born 3⁄17⁄1819, I've been told at Rockford, Winnebago Co., IL, but not sure that's where he was born. He married Abagail June Tunison on 3⁄30⁄1857. Their son, my great-grandfather, John Hardenburg McGregor, was born 6⁄26⁄1858 at Rockford, Winnebago Co., IL. At some time after that, they moved to Pottawatomie Co.,KS. I have not been able to locate any information on John (Sr.) McGregor's parents and⁄or siblings. Looking for information about Stephen Mack Jr., b. unk (Vermont). Son of Col. Stephen Mack. He married Hononegah on 14 Sep 1840. They had one daughter known to me Myrtie Mack b. abt 1844. Stephen later married Isabella Daniel on 24 Feb 1848, so Hononegah must have died before that date. Myrtie Married E. H. Drake of Mass. on 20 Jul 1868 and a Thomas H. Mack married a Hannah Headrick on the that same day 20 Jul 1868. Parent listed for Thomas are Stephen and Sarah. (Possible a nick name for Isabella?). Myrtie is my G-Grandmother I am looking for more information on Stephen and his wife Hononegah, and Isabella. There death date and place? Also if there were any other children. I have much more information about the descendants of Stephen Mack and would love to share. I understand that he was one of the first White settlers in Winnebago County. Is there any information of his life in the history of the county?

I am trying to trace the Medhurst family line. I have an old letter from someone who has the first name of Sharon (her maiden name would probably be Dale). It is dated March 17, 1980 and has the return address of 5911 Alma Dr., Rockford. I have no idea if she is still alive. She identifies her parents as Ross Dale and Valerie Moore. I imagine she can be identified in the 1980 city directory. Or I would be interested in communicating with anyone else working on the Medhurst family (The Medhursts came to Warren Co. IL in about 1842 from New York State (Seneca or Ontario Co.). Sharon claims in her letter to have considerable information. I will be happy to reimburse you for any expense.
